LIEVITARE

Directed by Filippo prestinari

ABOUT THE WORK

“Lievitare” is a 4-minute and 30-second video that documents the preparation of bread in a bakery: flour mixes with water, hands knead, the dough takes shape, stretches, folds, rests, extends, divides, and transforms. These are ancient gestures repeated every night, while the world sleeps and bakers, in the silence of their workshops, give life to a ritual that precedes the dawn.

A narrator’s voice accompanies the images, marking the work like a musical score. Words and gestures intertwine because every craft has its own language, its own rhythm, its own respect: the art of making is passed down not only through hands but also through the words that surround it.

Meanwhile, the sun advances but remains invisible. It is a latent presence, a promise of a cycle that is about to be completed. When the first rays of light filter through the windows, the bread is ready. Darkness fades, the day begins, the work is done, and the world starts anew.

Just as bread rises and matures, people grow, become adults, and transform in a slow, natural process that requires time, care, and patience.
